Who we are

In short: We're Memento Mode, made by Memento Digital Group Ltd. in Canada. This page explains what we collect and why — and we try to collect as little as we can.

Memento Mode ("Memento Mode," "we," "our," or "us") is operated by Memento Digital Group Ltd., a company registered in Canada. We're committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy & Security Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application (the "App").

Please read it carefully. By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information as described here. If you don't agree, please don't use the App.

Information we collect

In short: Your account details, how you use the App, the intentions and conversations you create, a device identifier, and — only if you use voice input — audio that's transcribed and not stored.

Account information

  • Email address — for account authentication and communication.
  • User ID — a unique identifier for your account.
  • Profile information — if you sign in with Google, we receive your name and profile photo from Google. This is stored by our authentication provider but isn't displayed or used in the App beyond authentication.

App usage data

  • App launch events — when you open apps in your configured blocksets.
  • Session durations — how long coaching sessions last.
  • Timestamps — when interactions occur.
  • Usage statistics — aggregated patterns about your app usage.

User-generated content

  • Intentions — the text you enter describing your goals when opening a blocked app.
  • Conversation history — your interactions with the AI coach.
  • Blockset configurations — the apps you choose to monitor.

Device information

  • Device identifier — used to sync your settings across sessions.

Diagnostics (limited)

  • To keep the App stable and fix problems, we and the app platforms (Apple and Google) may receive limited technical information such as device type, operating system, app version, and crash reports. We don't use this to identify you.

Voice data (optional)

  • Voice recordings — when you use voice input, audio is processed in real time for transcription. Voice data is processed ephemerally and is not stored.

Subscription information

  • If you buy a subscription, our subscription manager (RevenueCat and/or Superwall) and the app store process your purchase. We receive your subscription status, purchase events, and a pseudonymous identifier — not your full payment-card details, which the app store handles.

How we use your information

In short: To run the coaching, show you your stats, sync your settings, manage your subscription, improve the App, and reach you about your account.

We use the information we collect to:

  1. Provide AI coaching — your intentions and context are sent to AI providers to generate personalized coaching responses.
  2. Display usage statistics — show you insights about your app-usage patterns.
  3. Sync your settings — keep your blocksets and preferences consistent across sessions.
  4. Manage your subscription — confirm your entitlements and provide paid features.
  5. Improve the App — understand how features are used so we can make them better.
  6. Communicate with you — send important updates about the App or your account.

Where they apply to you (for example, under the GDPR), we rely on these legal bases: performance of our contract with you (to provide the App), your consent (for example, for voice input and optional features), our legitimate interests (to secure and improve the App), and compliance with our legal obligations.

Marketing communications

If you've agreed to receive them, we may send you occasional marketing emails or push notifications about new features, tips, and offers. You can opt out anytime — use the unsubscribe link in any marketing email, turn off notifications in your device settings, or email hello@mementomode.com. We follow Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) and other applicable laws, and only send marketing messages where we have the consent those laws require. Opting out of marketing won't stop important service messages about your account.

How we share information

In short: We share only what's needed with our AI, sign-in, infrastructure, and subscription providers. We never sell your data, and we don't use it for advertising.

Third-party AI providers

To provide coaching, we share conversation context (including your stated intentions) with:

  • Google (Gemini) — for AI coaching responses.
  • Anthropic (Claude) — for AI coaching responses.

These providers process your data under their own privacy policies. We share only the minimum necessary to provide coaching.

Google Sign-In

  • What we receive from Google: your email address, display name, and profile photo.
  • How it works: you authenticate directly with Google; Google provides an identity token to our authentication provider (Supabase), which creates or links your account.
  • What we use: only your email address and account identifier. Your profile name and photo are stored by Supabase Auth but aren't displayed in the App.
  • What we do not access: your Google contacts, calendar, files, or any other Google services.
  • Tokens: Google OAuth tokens are managed by Supabase; we don't store or access them directly.

You can revoke our access at any time through your Google Account permissions.

Infrastructure

Supabase provides our backend for data storage and authentication.

Subscriptions

RevenueCat and/or Superwall manage subscriptions and entitlements. Purchases are processed through the Apple App Store and Google Play, which handle your payment details. Our subscription providers receive purchase events, subscription status, and a pseudonymous identifier.

Legal and safety

We may disclose information when we believe in good faith that it's necessary to comply with the law or a valid legal request, to enforce our terms, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users, the public, or Memento Mode.

Business transfers

If Memento Mode is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We'll notify you of any change in who controls your information, and it will stay protected by a policy at least as protective as this one.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell your personal information.
  • We do not share your data for advertising.
  • We do not share your data with data brokers.

Security

In short: We encrypt your data in transit and at rest, limit who can access it, and we're honest that no system is ever perfectly secure.

We take the security of your information seriously and use appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect it:

  • Encryption in transit — all data between your device and our servers is protected with TLS encryption.
  • Encryption at rest — data stored on our servers is encrypted using platform-level encryption.
  • Access controls — access to personal data is limited to a need-to-know basis.
  • Authentication — accounts are secured through our authentication provider (Supabase). If you use Google Sign-In, we never see or store a password for you.
  • Ongoing practices — we keep our systems updated and review our practices as the App evolves.

No method of transmitting or storing data is 100% secure. While we work hard to protect your information, we can't guarantee absolute security. If you believe you've found a vulnerability, please email hello@mementomode.com so we can look into it.

Data retention

In short: We keep your data while your account is active. Delete your account and we remove it — quickly, with backups purged within 90 days.

We retain your information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account:

  • Account data is deleted immediately.
  • Usage statistics are purged within 30 days.
  • Backups containing your data are purged within 90 days.

International data transfers

In short: We're based in Canada, and some of our providers are in the United States, so your data may be processed there — and, like any data held in another country, it can be subject to that country's laws.

Memento Digital Group Ltd. is based in Canada. Some of the providers we rely on — including Supabase and our AI providers (Google and Anthropic) — process data in the United States and potentially other countries. This means your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed outside your country of residence, including in Canada and the United States, where data-protection laws may differ from those where you live.

While your information is in another country, it is subject to that country's laws and may be accessible to its courts, law enforcement, and national-security authorities under the laws of that jurisdiction. No agreement we put in place can fully override that. Where required, we take steps to help ensure your information receives an adequate level of protection. By using the App, you understand that your information may be processed in these locations.

Your privacy rights

In short: Depending on where you live, you can access, correct, or delete your data and withdraw consent. You can delete your account in the App or email us anytime.

You can always delete your account and associated data from the App's settings, and you can view your usage statistics and blockset configurations in the App. Depending on where you live, you may also have the rights below.

Canada (PIPEDA and provincial law)

You may request access to the personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct it. You may withdraw your consent to certain processing, which may limit some features. You may also complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or your provincial regulator. We have designated a privacy officer who is responsible for our compliance; you can reach them at hello@mementomode.com.

If you are a resident of Quebec, Quebec's Law 25 gives you additional rights, including the right to data portability and to be informed about automated decisions; you can exercise these through the same contact.

California (CCPA/CPRA)

If you're a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, to delete it, to correct inaccurate information, to opt out of its sale or sharing (we do not sell or share your data as those terms are defined), to limit the use of sensitive personal information, and not to be discriminated against for exercising your rights. Because we do not sell or share your personal information, we don't provide a separate "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" link.

European Economic Area and United Kingdom (GDPR / UK-GDPR)

If you're in the EEA or UK, you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or object to our processing of your personal data, the right to data portability, and the right to withdraw consent at any time. You may also lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. The legal bases we rely on are described under "How we use your information."

To exercise any of these rights, delete your account in the App or email hello@mementomode.com. We'll respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.

Children's privacy

In short: The App isn't for children under 13, and in parts of Europe the minimum age is higher — up to 16, depending on your country.

The App is not intended for children under 13 years of age, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you're a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we'll delete it.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the minimum age to consent to online services on your own can be higher than 13 — each country sets its own age between 13 and 16. If you are under the digital-consent age in your country, you may use the App only with the consent of a parent or guardian. In the United Kingdom, that age is 13.

App-monitoring disclosure

In short: To know when you open a blocked app, we use Android's Accessibility Service or Apple's Screen Time framework — only to detect those launches, never to read your screen.

To do its core job, Memento Mode needs to know when you open an app that's in one of your blocksets. How it detects this depends on your platform.

Android — Accessibility Service

Memento Mode uses Android's Accessibility Service to detect when you launch apps in your configured blocksets. This service:

  • Does: monitor app-launch events to trigger coaching interventions.
  • Does not: read screen content, interact with other apps, or access data from other applications.

The Accessibility Service is required for the core functionality of the App and can't be used without this permission enabled.

iOS — Screen Time (Family Controls)

On iOS, Memento Mode uses Apple's Screen Time framework (Family Controls / DeviceActivity) to detect when you open apps you've selected. This monitoring runs on your device under Apple's framework; we don't receive the contents of your screen or your activity in other apps. It requires your Screen Time authorization, which you can grant or revoke in iOS settings.

Changes to this policy

In short: If we change this policy, we'll update the date and let you know in the App.

We may update this Privacy & Security Policy from time to time. We'll notify you of any changes by posting the new policy in the App and updating the "Last updated" date above. Please review it periodically.
